Tracing can take on various forms, engaging with different materials and tools. One such example is this fabric wrapping of a window section within our studio.
To execute this piece, a layer of canvas is shed onto the surface, while stiffeners are utilized to hold its form. The glass area remains unstiffened, allowing the application of linseed oil, translating translucency and opaqueness into soft and hard.
Wrapping occupies a unique position between two-dimensional and three-dimensional representation, blending aspects of printing and casting. This technique serves as a means of documenting surfaces, yet it also captures the relief and formwork inherent in the process. Itsuggests an interplay between permanence-impermanence, absence-presence, and the solid-fragile.
