During the 1950s and 1980s, Beijing witnessed the rapid construction of collectivist residential buildings as part of early socialist architectural practices. One such experiment was the Fusuijing Mansion. This architectural endeavor took place at a time when the government aspired to establish an efficient industrialized society, coinciding with the citizens' aspirations for a better quality of life. Consequently, many citizens opted to reside in buildings like the Fusuijing Mansion. However, the collision of these two divergent desires led to the eventual breakdown of this utopian living experiment.

Nonetheless, the structure of these collectivist residential buildings embodies a distinct and evocative tectonic romanticism. In the context of the exponential growth in demand within the Chinese contemporary art market, new modes of collective artistic production and reproduction have emerged. This resurgence has led to the rediscovery of the value inherent in collectivist buildings, and thus, a new chapter unfolds.
